Proposed New Primary Care Centre - Mountain Ash

It has been planned, for some years, that Mountain Ash should have a new Healthcare Centre. Funding has now been approved by Welsh Government to enable Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board to progress a new purpose-built, modern Primary Care (GP) and Community Services Centre for Mountain Ash.

What are Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board Planning to Do?

It is planned to transfer the current GP Practices of Cynon Vale Medical Centre and Rhos House Surgery, as well as Community delivered services, to the new Primary Care and Community Services Centre as well as provide some new services to the patients of Mountain Ash.

Why do we need a New Centre?

The current GP Surgery sites in Mountain Ash are no longer fit for purpose. Rhos House Surgery is now too small. They also need more space for the vitally important role of training GPs for Future Generations. Cynon Vale Medical Practice is housed in a re-modelled house. In the past few years, Portacabins, which require Planning Permission, have been erected to provide more space. This is not a sustainable option.

Where will the New Centre be Built?

The new Centre will be built on the vacant land on Miskin Road, near the Train Station and close to the Town Centre. There will be on-site car parking with dedicated disabled parking spaces as well as a “drop off” area for patients visiting the Centre.

When will the New Centre be Built?

You should start to see the site being prepared during December 2019, with construction beginning early in January 2020. The anticipated completion date will be November 2020.
